Spotted stump

Charred inside and out, this tree was an ideal target for the mountain pine beetle, which punctured its twisted bark with countless bites. Around it, Oregon sunflowers stretched across the forest floor in a radiant display. Spotted Stump arranges each bloom within the beetle’s marks as if a perfectly tailored suit. By merging light and dark—in both color and concept—this installation highlights the profound beauty in life’s duality.
