Spring 25
During the cold winter months, I yearn for the first crocus, serving as sign that spring is in the air. These small, yet mighty blooms stand out amongst the taupe colors of winter, and many times reveal themselves while still under a white blanket of snow. When I spotted the first one a few weeks ago, showing off its vibrant frondescence, I knew it was time to shake off the winter slumber and welcome my spring collection.
A foraging adventure led me to the hills. While the colors were still bleak, countless trees caught my attention. They looked as if they popped out of the ground or someone picked them like a weed. Stress from drought and beetle infestation has led to tree decay, then high winds topple them to their knees. These trees were laying in our forests as perfect kindling for potential wildfires.
In the spirit of spring, a time of renewal and rebirth, I decided to give them a fresh start. I proceeded to get my workout in - hauling trees off the hills. My ambition got the best of me. I started with a 3’ tree and, eventually, graduated to an 8’. Needless to say, the following day I was quite sore, yet excited to give these trees a new beginning. They serve as the perfect foundation for this season’s theme…
Whether on sand or snow, grass or granite, driftwood endures the forces of nature. It showcases nature’s ebs and flows, the passage of time and ever present moment.
This season’s chandeliers consist of hundreds of pieces of wood intricately woven and hung, representing the interconnectedness of our land, while each art print is accompanied by its own story to awaken the energetic shift toward renewal. Let these serve as inspiration to get outside, greet the new blooms, and see our world with fresh eyes.
