Apple trees are hardy and drought tolerant, making them suitable for higher altitudes. Apple seeds were brought from various parts of the country to Boulder by its first settlers. These unique varieties gave way to robust orchards throughout town. They bloom late in the spring and mature early in the fall, protecting their fruit against spring frosts and fall freezes. Apples are high in fiber, specifically pectin, which acts as a prebiotic, nourishing a healthy gut microbiome. As a cooling food, its easily digested and helps release toxins from the body.
