MAD Agriculture
MAD journal
I had the pleasure of working with MAD Agriculture in the spring of 2025. I visited two properties with the intention of collecting plants to represent the biodiversity during this fruitful time of year.
Haystack farm portrayed a wild native feel, where we harvested various grasses and pruned willow, cottonwood, plum, and elm trees. While we highlighted a more cultivated approach at DAR (Drylands Agroecology Research), known for curating perennial gardens where plants need little intervention and come back year after year. We focused on whole plants - roots, seeds, stems, and last years growth - gathering burdock, walking onion, orache spinach, motherwort, and bronze fennel.
My intention was to represent each properties’ unique qualities in the design. Working with MAD, we customized a journal for their farmers and customers alike. The front side showcases DAR’s plants, while Haystacks’ varieties are on the back.
