In the Rocky Mountains, common burdock is a known weed due to its ability to easily entangle with livestock and take over pastures. It stands tall, growing up to nine feet tall. From spring to summer its green buds transform to purple flowers. In the winter, the base of the flowers produce dry hooked spines that become sticky burrs. Burdocks large, edible roots are can be dug up and dried for tea. Known for its bitter taste, it simulates digestion and helps rid the body of toxins.
